The 'Friends of Martongate Primary School' are a committee of individuals who work voluntarily to raise funds for the children of Martongate Primary School,Bridlington.

All welcome at our relaxed/social style meetings, and help us put the 'fun' into fundraising.

We desperately need more 'Friends' to volunteer and give a few hours per month to help arrange and stage our fundraising events.

C2C2C Challenge 24th-27th July 2011

Hello my name is Jason Walbyoff and I am a new ‘Friends of Martongate’ member, having joined shortly after the loss of Paul Green. As a friend of Paul I wish he was still about to guide me and share our fun. The man was  inspirational in every way.

As an outstanding athlete in my youth, and later guiding my best friend Andrew Curtis a blind athlete at Barcelona/Sydney Paralympics and other International events, I was ready for another challenge.

Now aged 41, no longer able to run so well, I  found mountain biking and love it! So much so a 350 mile coast to coast and back again ride alongside my brother seemed the perfect challenge to refire my sporting background and begin training for this event. Approximately 85 miles a day for 4 days. That’s hard work on a mountain bike, believe me. The route is from Bridlington to Harrogate day 1, Harrogate to Morecambe Day 2, Morecambe to Harrogate Day 3, and Harrogate to Bridlington Day 4

I have chosen to support The Friends of Martongate and also The Sick Children’s Trust. It was this charity that helped my family very much when my daughter Mia was born 12 weeks premature, by providing ‘home from home’ accommodation, whilst in Leeds Hospital receiving life saving care.

Training was going fantastically well, with rides over 50 miles in length becoming regular and then……!

Accident……I  was thrown over the handle bars of a quad bike and a poor landing resulted in 2 fractures of my back. I just see it as another challenge to overcome and the doctors have told me not to ride for 4 weeks. The training then begins again and the event is back on schedule.

I hope you are able to sponsor me and help me raise plenty of cash, for both Friends of Martongate and The Sick Children’s Trust. Many thanks to those who already have and to local businesses for their support.

Bike Parade Wed 27th July 5:20/5:30

Children and parents are invited to welcome home the 'Walbyoff brothers' and join them to ride from North Marine Drive opposite Brid Bay Cafe to The Ship Sewerby on the 'offroad' cycle route up the cliff top. Free helium balloons to decorate your bike, with thanks to The Partymill, Bessingby Ind Est.  www.thepartymill.co.uk . There will be face-painting at the Ship Sewerby also.
