GYMNASTICS The squad have been working very hard over the past few months preparing for the forthcoming Yorkshire Championships.
Twelve gymnasts had an early start to travel all the way to Sheffield to compete in the Yorkshire Milano Team Trio
Championships. Each gymnast had to perform an individual floor routine, two vaults and a group floor routine. The criteria not only involved gymnastic skills but had to include elements such as lifts, group balances, leaps, spins, jumps and dance. Gymnasts had to show strength and flexibility in all skills performed to improve their overall score. The top two teams from each category would then represent Yorkshire and compete in the British Championships at Stoke in March.
It was the first competition for Addison Stamper (6), Rose Hodgson (7) and Annie Smith (7). The girls performed beautifully showing very promising skills in their floor routines and good synchronisation in their group floor routine finishing in 1st place in the beginner category.
It was the first time the Girls A team had competed at this competition. The girls performed some very strong vaults and floor routines with their trio group sequence being very well executed. The team were pipped at the post by a team from Sheffield finishing in 3rd place, with only 0.2 points separating the top 3 teams; team members were Connie Melles,
Isabel Gregory and Keira Butcher. Connie scored the highest vault score throughout the whole of the U11 girl category.
The school had two Mixed teams competing this year. Mixed B team – Danny Rhodes, Charlie De’Ath and Ava Smales had a fantastic competition showing a good range of floor skills. The team finished in 3rd place. Thanks goes to Ava who stood in at the last minute and only had 3 weeks to learn both floor routines!
The Mixed A team had a superb day performing some high scoring skills on both floor and vault, with a very well executed and synchronised group routine which helped them once again gain a place at the British Milano Trio Championships for their category – Team members are Sian Beswick, Lillie Kay and Toby Gee.
Head Coach, Jo Ward has said “Well done to all gymnasts, you have worked very hard and deserve recognition for your hard work, teamwork and commitment. You have shown good team spirit and supported each other throughout.
